House Of Style welcomes you to
a fun-filled shoot, and we pride ourselves on knowing you
will soon come to love the pictures that transpire from our
session. Here are some valuable tips to make
your shooting experience priceless. These tips
come from various make up artists, photographers, wardrobe
experts, and industry working professionals that have given
up helpful tips to make your shooting experience of
excellence.
72 hours before photo shoot, try to avoid the following
items ( they are known to cause oily skin, and sometimes
swelling ) This will help your skin before our shoot….
a. Red Meat
b. Alcohol
c. Caffeine (
avoid heavy amounts if you drink a lot of caffeine )
d. Alpha Hydroxy
Cremes ( causes skin to peel and shows with make up )
e. Retin A
f. Spicey Foods
g. Oily
foods……….
2.
Water with your diet
Eat healthy, get
good sleep, and drink lots of water ( 48 hours before shoot
no matter what ).Carry it with you everywhere you roam for about 2
days before the shoot… carry a water bottle and sip
away…. This can help you tone up a little as well if you
work out on a regular basis.
We will have cool bottled water for you at our shoots as
well.
3.
Eyes
Have your eye
brows shaped before photo shoot….. This is to save our
make-up artists time and create a flowing shoot. You can
also keep them up by plucking they strays every couple days.
I have come across some extra talented make up artists that
will pluck the strays, but due to time constraints they will
not have excess time for shaping.
If you want
lashes for the MUA to put on you, bring them, MUA's will not
provide free lashes.
4. Exfoliate your
skin at least once a week before the shoot, and then the
morning of the shoot.
5.
Make Up
Carry your own
mascara with you to a shoot. A. Although make-up artists bring mascara,
they use the same mascara on multiple models. You might have
a special brand that you like best on you verses what brands
are used by our MUA’s ….. Having yours with you is a
bonus if the mascara an MUA is using is not working.

6.
Make Up
- a.
All traces of make-up
should be gone from your face when you check in at the
shoot.
- b. Professional models will wash with toner 30
minutes before the shoot, but do not add any make-up at
all, unless you plan to do your own make-up.
- c.
All eyeliner and mascara should also be gone from your
face.
- d.
Your face should be clean and free of all products when
you come to the shoot.
7.
Nails
- a.
Finger nails and toe nails should all be one length,
this is industry standard, however, if you choose to
have multiple lengths, let the photographers know what
look you are looking for.
- b.
Finger nails should be well manicured for a flawless
shoot.
- c.
Polish should be colorless or French unless you are
looking for a specific color scheme for a specific
shoot. If this is the case, then you might be stuck with
certain looks or colors in wardrobe.
8.
Hair ( not hair balls )
- a.
If you have dark roots, take some time before the shoot
and touch up your hair, refresh your hair color before
the shoot. If you aren’t able to refresh your hair or
unsure, try shades, or even a toner slightly lighter
than your hair color to give it a nice healthy shine.
- b.
If you know you need a trim, do it well before the
shoot….
- c.
Do not over condition your hair before the shoot. You
can use your normal products on your hair to make it
behave naturally.
- d.
Please come to the shoot with your hair primarily dry,
but do not OVER dry your hair…… When blow drying
hair, or letting a natural dry set in, you can come into
shoot with a damp dry, for best results….. This will
allow more flexibility with creativity that stylists use
to produce best results for your shoot.
9.
Skin
If you plan to
show a lot of skin in your shots, get a tanning session or
(2) in before shooting. What ever you do, avoid spray on
tans! Spray on tans will cause a streaky look 90% of the
time and it will give you an orange appearance, so unless
you’re trying to shoot for fruit of the looms as the
walking orange…. Skip spray on tan…….
10.
Facial ( body ) Hair
If you have
facial hair and you are a woman, or want that woman look,
have it waxed off before the shoot, unless you want a hair
ball look, but do this at least 2 weeks before the shoot (
read 10b) …. FYI…. That cute little peach fuzz that some
people sport will show up and look worse in pictures than in
person. If you want outstanding pictures in your portfolio,
this is one step that will help your pictures look 100%
portfolio ready.
10b. Facial
waxing should NOT be done to close to the shoot date
especially ( 48 hours before ) ....specially the
eyebrows.....I ALWAYS tell them to avoid eyebrow waxing the
week of the shoot......waxing sucks if you over do...... and
you can burn the skin......
11. Some
professional models will get rid of all body hair that could
possibly show. This is determined by what shots you are
going for. If you are only looking for good head shots, then
focusing on the body will not be the task for a
photographer, however, in a professional setting, always be
prepared for skin looks that may require.
12.
Garments
Bring
strapless bras that you are comfortable with, nude
undergarments, and bring a tube top, they always work at
shoots.
Anything that you think will help accentuate your shooting
experience, bring it in a duffle bag.
If wardrobe is ( NOT ) offered at a shoot, bring enough
outfit material for at least ( 5 ) outfit changes. If a
shoot calls for a number of outfits, like (4) changes then
bring (6) to (8) outfits just in case. Especially if clients
are involved in the shoot. If you are going to a networking shoot like House Of Style Productions.... be creative and
bring as much creative material as possible......
13.
Lips
Avoid dry
lips by putting Vaseline on your lips before bed and when
you wake up… Vaseline …. Also use light Vaseline on your
lips the morning of the shoot. You can also exfoliate your
lips by brushing them nightly and every morning with your
tooth brush.
