Where do you start ???? Portfolio Info 101 !  

If you are an up and coming model and you want to get started in the business, there are a number of things to consider as you plan to journey into this business. Before I go any further, let me say this out right.... YOU DON'T NEED A PORTFOLIO FOR AN AGENCY TO TAKE YOU IN, AND GET YOU WORK.... Not sure where models even get that from. All you need is you, and maybe a small Polaroid picture from one of them little b@w machines in the mall.... So why is it good to start your own portfolio and build it up.... Well that is where House Of Style comes in.....
 

1st, building a portfolio gives you experience behind the camera. Learning posing, getting comfortable, and understanding photographers of all walks... Just learning different techniques in posing will help you become a better model, and you can practice dailey. 
 

2nd, you learn to network and get experience building up the ( who you know ) category, just by going out and getting experience doing shoots.
 

Next, you learn to carry yourself in and out of the business, and this sense of inner strength and security usually comes from completing your first shoot and seeing just how beautiful you really are. Inner security and building up your confidence will make your pictures stand out in a portfolio.


Another lesson learned by building a portfolio is learning how to make photographers work for you as they learn and make you work for them. This skill comes with a lot of practice, but as you learn this method, you become an asset in the modeling world. Every time you step in front of a camera, you want to work it, and this comes from experience and practice. Agencies charge you a LOT for this, so finding a less expensive solution is here with House Of Style Productions.


Lastly, as you build your presence, whether you start on Model Mayhem and get some starter pictures from a local photographer, or you get an agency to build your first portfolio ( expensive ) there are a few things you have to keep in mind.... We do a good job of analyzing the photographers that shoot with us, but you should to.


B. You want it to be semi affordable, and  with people you can build trust with. There are 1001 ways to answer this question, but there is one sure way for you to get started in the modeling world with a company that strives and implores you to network and grow with the others you meet at our sessions, events, and shows. An agency might start you out charging you $1500.00 for the same services you get at House Of Style Sessions for less than 15% ! Always research your moves you make as you gain experience, your first 3 - 6 months are really just learning the business ends, and the basics, so find a comfortable place that is affordable, and as you grow, you will end up in the better place.


C. You also want great images to help you build your portfolio, a perfect environment to shoot in, photographers - mua's - hair stylists, and industry experts that have credible backgrounds to help you build trust. With House Of Style Productions, even if your new to the business, you will be surrounded by professionals that you will learn from, just by being in the same environment.

We have recently added posing coaches at our sessions to work with everyone, not just models, they work with photographers that want help setting models, they work with the designers to get the best pictures, and the networking grows stronger. We also added wardrobe stylists that walk around the studio and main floor shooting areas making sure that models and their wardrobe is ready for the 1st picture... These stylists are usually volunteer support that want the same as you, a portfolio that they can build with a credible claim that they helped you create your look !


Models -  you hear the word ( portfolio ) a lot, but when you find out creating one starts at your first shoot, and we help you do it, that is what counts the most..... This takes the pressure off thinking you might get famboozled or taken for. At each shoot you will most likely receive 8-10 edited portfolio quality pictures, and you might  have 2 - 3 pictures that you can add to your portfolio. Even if you only add (1) picture to your portfolio, you are still saving $100's of dollars, and you are still getting priceless networking and experience doing something you love ! 
 

Remember, even if you don't choose House Of Style Productions to start building your portfolio, remember to start in a comfortable setting with a photographer you can trust. If you sign a release agreement without understanding it, that photographer can do whatever he or she wants to do with your pictures, and after the shoot, there is nothing you can do about it. So, be careful, don't sign your images away unless you can trust the photographer you are shooting with. House Of Style Productions uses general release agreements that protects you - the model - the photographer, and everyone involved in creating your look that comes out when you receive your pictures.

You want to continue to refresh your portfolio at least once every few months, and you should always be trying new looks, themes, and fun experiences that you can add to your look, EVEN IF YOU ARE SIGNED TO AN AGENCY, don't let that stop you from exploring new looks ... Hopefully you are with an agency that will encourage you to be creative and search for higher learning. There are some agencies that will ban you from shooting with different photographers.... I would tend to stay clear of these agencies unless they are paying you tremendously.
