Marketing and making a difference with Jessica Simpson

Interview with Jessica Simpson / Miami Florida
1. Can you give advice to young and up and coming talent as to how they can get
attention ?
" Love what you do and always strive for excellence. Make sure you are always
promoting and marketing yourself to everyone you know, you can start with family
and friends, and then move to the outside world, but never stop striving to be
better. Never give up on your dream, you can make the impossible very possible
if you put out 100% effort into everything you do. Lastly, read up on everything
that is happening around you and pay attention to who is who, and who is doing
what. Knowing the entertainment business inside and out is a good step in the right direction
when you want to get ahead ."
Here is an example of promoting using creative tools to capture attention.
As pictured above, Jessica Simpson was a guest of honor at Power House, the
largest and longest lasting event, created by Program Director Kid Curry. Just
before introducing Jessica Simpson on stage I was back stage getting prepared as
to how to hand the mic off as she came on stage. We had a brief moment to chat
as she was saying, " Wow do I love coming to Miami to perform, there is no other
place to be at a time like this, I love this city !" I asked her if she
ever wanted to live in Miami and she said, " This is a home away from home, I
have friends and family here that I come to visit often ."
I took a few pictures of
her back stage and on stage, and then teased it on the radio the next night...
Like, for those of you who weren't able to go to Power House, here is what
Jessica Simpson had to say.....etc.... I know not everyone has the ability to
get footage and pictures like this, but use your imagination as to how you can
capture your possible fans.
I created Ez Street Records www.ezstreetrecords.com in Milwaukee Wisconsin, during a time when the internet was mainly for chat rooms and message boards, so creating the site was a statement in itself. Ez Street Records meant, Ez to get help on the streets with your ability. My air name was Ez Street, so it fit…. It was a promotions and marketing record label aimed at taking new talent, putting there music and information on line, and promoting the product to people. It also sounded cool on the radio to let the kids that listened know that as an air talent, I was offering a record label to them for promoting new talent in our own community. I also put pictures on the site like above, to bring to life the events our radio station was giving. This brings local community awareness into the spectrum of being a good air talent. My main purpose was to help young musicians with talent on line for free, and the best way to drive people to the site was by promoting different events, pictures, and mixes we played on the air, and that they were available to listen to. When you develop your talent you can use your skill to make statements to others about how to build themselves up too. It might not even be in an artistic manner, however, you will notice that as an artist, dancer, model, air talent, etc…. you will build your name and talent up, and hopefully become well respected. The more you do for your community, your friends, and young artists to support one another will help you create your own statement. This form of marketing will in turn create strong word of mouth for you and possibly get you future work.
