Just Yesterday....... A future model said " I want to model, how do I
start "
______________________________________________________________
I will address the specific avenues of entertainment, IE modeling, and how to
start later in this book, but this conversation just recently took place between
me and a future model, and I though you might be able to learn from it.
I got an e-mail from a girl named "Becky" who stated, I have been told by all my
friends that I should consider modeling as a career, I am 18, where do I start,
where can I get information. My initial response comes from the fact that I am a
photographer, and I work with models, agents, and businesses that utilize
models:
Response: Since you are young and naive to a business that
can suck you in and manipulate you if you turn to the wrong people, I suggest
you read as many books on modeling as possible. Pick out a book each week and
read it. If you can't afford to buy the books, go to Barnes and Nobles or a
store similar and read the books at night. If this is the business you really
want to be into, you should already want to do this anyways. You should be
hungry for knowledge. You should have 1.5 million questions. From, how does a
model find work and get paid? ... to how do I start building a portfolio?
......... Just looking at Cosmo and comparing how you look in a bikini to the
cover model is the least of what you have to gain in knowledge. You have to
learn who each person is that plays a part in the world of modeling:
Agents
Manager
Casting Director
Photographer
Modeling Agency Staff, and what they do.......
I will say this, if you think you can make it in the world of modeling and you
don't know the people mentioned above and their roles they play, you are already
on the wrong path. You have to know your surroundings and what they consist of.
By finding and reading books about:
modeling
modeling management
the art of modeling
finding the right agency
finding the best photographer
etc........... You will gain world's of knowledge that will put you FAR ahead of
the average person that thinks he or she is going to model just because they
have a look. Since you are young, reading up on the art of modeling is a start.
Later in this e-online book I have a section called 5 pages for every new
model, but first there is much to learn before you read into it.... call it
personal building....
