 Management Featuring Usher
_________________________

Usher is definitely an artist that was raised to be a star, because his mother was by his side to help guide him through tough decisions he would be forced to make. She played the part of mother, guidance, manager, and friend...... If I had to define " manager " or "  " management " it would go:

Management in the arts: someone that looks out for your best interest with your goals, determinations, and health - safety. Someone that is willing to be an artists eyes and ears in everything happening in the field the artist is in, and networking with all forms entertainment to stay connected with everything that is happening around the artist they may benefit him or her.

While on the radio at V-100 in Milwaukee, Usher and his mother stopped by the radio station to do an interview that offered some hopeful advice to you if you are an up and coming artist.

1. While on the road doing your promo and appearances, how does having your mother by your side help you with management ?

It couldn't be any better for me as artist, moms looks out for me in every aspect of my career. There is no one better to help me get through this business as a young entertainer. If I could give some one out there some honest advice as to coming up as an artist, it would be to have someone closest to you helping you make the right decisions. The closer you are to your manager, the better your manager becomes.

2. Is there a difference in the way you act while your mother is with you on the road.

My moms let's me be me. She comes to all the clubs with me, and for that I am less likely to fall into the pitfalls that other artists sink into when they have poor management.

3. Can you describe some of the pitfalls that artists get caught up in ?

Shady managers are known to be out there in numbers waiting to find young naive talent that they can take advantage of. Money and contract issues are the most common pitfalls artists fall for. If your manager is not someone that cares just as much about you and your career as themselves, then you have management problems.

Later on that night after this interview took place, Usher came by Van Domes Night club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to do a small set of songs. He was a hit in the club, met a lot of young girls, and his mother even stood by and pointed them out ! Case and point, if you are seeking to have someone manage you, look to your closest people in your life that already support what you do, they are the first step in the right direction. If you are still un sure as to who to have manage you......... this next few pages on self management may give you some things to think about, and give you a hobby for awhile until you find the right person.........
