The 49th Annual Grammys

I love her

Christina Aguilera gets standing ovation

What went down ?????

The reunion of The Police opened the telecast with a version of their first hit, "Roxanne." It quickly became clear, however, that the evening belonged to Justin Timberlake and The Dixie Chicks, along with Mary J Blige showing her emotion and Christina Aguilera getting a standing ovation for her dedication to James Brown.....

Justin Timberlake showed pure class up and down the scale, 1st by taking home a pair of awards  including Best Dance Performance for "Sexy Back" ... and for his duet with some chick named Mrs. Troup.... who will be  a  household name by next year at this time........ he also became one of the few artists to perform more than once during a single ceremony. Timberlake showed off his epic piano-playing skills on "What Goes Around" and  he really gave it his all with  the "My Grammy Moment" contest winner Robyn Troup mentioned above... it was her first time on national TV and in front of millions........  they did it up with  Bill Withers' soul classic "Ain't No Sunshine." WHAT AN EPIC PERFORMANCE".............

The Chicks  dominated the award portion of the program sweeping all five categories they were nominated in, right up until the very last award, which they won, beating out Justin Timberlake, who I personally felt should have won........ The Chicks got.....Album of the Year for Taking the Long Way and Song of the Year for "Not Ready to Make Nice." In accepting the latter award, front woman Natalie Maines joked that "for the first time in my life, I'm speechless!"

Mary J. Blige gave thanks to close to 60 people in her speech..... hahahahah she wanted everyone to know everyone in her life... but on the real, she deserved her 3 awards..... Blige gave a super passionate rendition of "Be Without You," hitting an energy level that Christina Aguilera would match with her cover of James Brown's "It's A Man's Man's Man's World." Christina, who won the Best Female Pop Vocal award for "Ain't No Other Man," says, "I was completely flattered to think they would think I could handle a James Brown song. Who better than him to emulate?"  word for word from this diva........

" I was completely flattered to think they would think that I could handle a James Brown  the Godfather of Soul  song. But I actually pay tribute to James Brown in one of the songs on my album Back to Basics, on a song called 'Back in the Day,' which pays tribute to all that I'm inspired by in soul music and blues and who better than him to want to emulate?" I love this woman !  Christina Aguilera kicks off her tour in Houston on February 20th, and hits KC on the 24th, imma be there !

Jay-Z, Fergie, Mary J. Blige and Gnarles Barkley  were  on fire at  last night's 49th annual Grammy Awards telecast.

Another funny on the show was the whole dipping into business....

John Mayer walked the red carpet without his so-called girlee girl......Jessica Simpson. When asked by Ryan Seacrest about his alleged new girlfriend, Mayer answered in Japanese, which no-one got..... until an hour later, the translation came back.  "Jessica Simpson is very beautiful...and you're the last to know."

I thought it meant, Jessica Simpson is a hoe........whoops... my bad

Scarlett Johansson was also in the house, but walking the red carpet a hundred feet behind Justin Timberlake.... I guess that's how he gets down ........ Supposedly she said they were just friends, according to what she said. Actually, she said, "We have a lot of friends in common, and Justin's a sweetheart, and it's always good to see him, but there's a lot of speculation and I try not to read that stuff. I think when two people are single and are seen together, it's immediately like a crazy feeding frenzy."

translation...... " Justin is hitting it"

Paula Abdul
made somehow made it into the Staples Center without falling over drunk, and Jamie Foxx's daughter apparently thinks her dad is "strict but funny."

Mary J. Blige
was one of the BIG winners ready to make nice, saying, "I'm growing a better human being." Mary got 3 HUGE awards...
Best R-&-B Album for The Breakthrough, Best R-&-B Song and Best Female R-&-B Vocalist, both for "Be Without You." If you were watching the show, that was Terrence Howard who introduced Blige, who performed "Be Without You" and Lorraine Ellison's 1966 hit "Stay With Me," backed by a band and HUGE choir. Mary definately did her thing, stomping around making her mark......... She  returned later in a sexy red jumpsuit to perform with Ludacris  who took Best Rap Album for Release Therapy and Best Rap Song for "Money Maker" featuring Pharrell Williams ....... That's right, Ludacris finally won an award after being nominated 5 yrs in a row, he won one.... and had his hair being short as the reason ....... Another Big WINNER was John Legend.... . Legend took home two HUGE awards as well.....  Best R&B Male Vocal Performance for "Heaven" and Best B&B Performance by a Duo or Group for "Family Affair" with Joss Stone and Van Hunt.

Gnarls Barkley got one of them awards you might have thought they just made up to give them something for being so tight..... They took home Best Urban Alternative Performance for "Crazy" and Best Alternative Music Album for St. Elsewhere.

Beyonce
's performance of "Listen" was introduced by Prince........ tight work ! B Day took the award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Surprise shut-outs included one to Ne-Yo, Prince, Chris Brown and Mariah Carey, obviously in return for Mariah's shout out she gave B over Seas just before dissing J-Lo..... that was funny....

Gospel winners included none other than Kirk Franklin, who took two awards for Best Contemporary Gospel Album for Hero and Best Gospel Song for "Imagine Me," and Yolanda Adams, who won Best Gospel Performance for "Victory."

The show opened with a performance from Sting and The Police, marking a notable reunion for the rock band that broke up 24 years ago, they just anounced they will reunite and they will tour ........

The crazyness was just made even more crazy when Smokey Robinson, Lionel Richie, Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera performed a tribute to R&B music introduced by Black Snake Moan co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. Robinson sang his classic "Track of My Tears," followed by Richie performing "Hello." Inspired by his film Stomp the Yard, Brown and his crew performed a stepin routine before launching into "Run It," Just a few weeks after having a sprained ankle.........

Other performances included Wyclef and Shakira, and Gnarls Barkley. Presenters included Chris Rock, Queen Latifah, Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna and Quentin Tarantino.
